Introduction
One of our monthly activities was camping. This time, we took a weekend off to spend time in a quiet area away from the hectic and noisy city life. We packed our 35l backpack with all the necessities and groceries for an adventure.
How to get there:
We took a regular Jeepney from our home to Monumento in Metro Manila. There, we had to ask and look around for buses heading toward Norzagaray. Locals led us to the right spot, and we got our tickets. The journey took approximately 2.5 hours to the Norzagaray Municipal Hall, where we got off. Near this building, many tricycle drivers are waiting for customers going to the Maramo River. Reaching the Safe Haven Maramo River Camping ground took us another thirty minutes. We walked down to the river for fifteen minutes from the road, where we had to cross it with a small wooden raft. On the other side, the location’s owner was waiting to show us around and tell us what was included in the overnight stay package.
The whole journey took us at least four hours.
The Location:
After pitching our tent in the designated area, we went swimming and started cooking our food. In the evening, the owner started a bonfire for us. It is included in the package for two persons.
Comfort rooms are also available, and refillable drinking bottles with Mosquito Killers can be purchased for a small price.
On the next day, one employee gave us a ride in his small boat. There were a few high spots where we could jump into the water and have a nice overview of the river. We took a few shots with our drone, and after lunch, the owner assisted us in walking back to the road and heading home.

The Maramo River is easily accessible. Along it are many spots where you can stay overnight. The Safe Haven is a good choice, and the staff was very welcoming. There is no need to have a big budget to organize a trip to Palawan. This place offers a similar experience and supports the locals with their livelihood! We loved it!
